SHOSHANA BEAN
Shoshana Bean has been my favorite singer since 2005. From the first note I heard her sing in the Broadway musical Wicked, I was mesmerized and in love! I've kept up with her ever since that night. Annoying my friends with constantly sending them countless YouTube clips of her ripping songs to shreds!
She left the Broadway scene and started focusing on her own music. Must I say? Yes, she captivated me even more with her heart-wrenching lyrics and unique musical perspective and style. Now, it's story time!
So, in 2009, she performed at the historical jazz club Birdland in Nyc. It was June 22nd. It was with a trio. Upright bass, drums, and piano. Heaven! Anyone who knows me, knows I love Michael Jackson with all of my heart. So you can fathom my excitement when the trio went into a rendition of "Working Day and Night." I nearly vomited from excitement! And there I was, singing along to every single word. I thought to myself, "Am I the only one in the room enjoying this?!" No, I wasn't. Shoshana was feeling it too. Perhaps she was thinking the same thing because in the middle of the second verse, while singing, she spots me in my chair at the bar...beaming, smiling, swaying in my chair, singing word for word. She looks right at me, smiles big, points at me, and nods her head. As if to say, "Yeaaaa!" Of course, I smiled and nodded back.
As fate would have it, 3 short days later, Michael was gone. June 25, 2009. A day I will never forget. Nor will I ever forget the moment where I caught Shoshana Bean's attention.
